Democrats Denounce Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials voiced fury after Donald Trump charged a group of Democratic representatives of being "traitors" and asserted they should be arrested and punished "by death" following their release of a disputed video.

The Recording That Triggered the Controversy

The clip, published on Tuesday, includes six Democratic elected officials who formerly acted in armed forces or security roles.

"Similar to us, you all swore an oath to protect and defend this founding document," the representatives stated in the short video. "And right now, the dangers to our democratic foundation aren't just from abroad, but from within our own country. Our laws are unambiguous, you can decline improper directives, you can refuse unlawful commands, you must reject improper directives. No one has to follow commands that violate the legal system or our founding principles."

The Former President's Angry Reply

The recorded statement reportedly prompt a heated reply from the ex-president.

On the following morning, Trump posted on Truth Social: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate publication, he declared: "This is really bad, and Harmful to our Nation. Their comments cannot be enabled to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional post, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also reposted a statement that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Representatives Answer

Following Trump's comments on Thursday, Democratic leadership released a combined declaration censuring the statements.

"Violent politics has no position in this nation," they wrote. "Representatives who were featured in the video all worked our country with tremendous loyalty and honor. We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and harmful calls for execution against members of Congress, and call on Republican lawmakers to vigorously do the same."

The party representatives also mentioned that they had been in communication with protective services "to make certain the security of these officials and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must without delay remove these extreme social media posts and withdraw his dangerous language before he leads to violence," the statement added.

Representatives' Strong Response

The representatives who were featured in the video also published a statement.

"We serve as former service members and defense specialists who value this United States and swore an pledge to safeguard and uphold the constitution of the United States," they declared. "Our pledge is permanent, and we intend to maintain it. No intimidation, intimidation, or incitement will prevent us from that sacred responsibility."

"What's most telling is that the former president views it punishable by execution for us to reiterate the law," they added. "Our service members should recognize that we have their support as they execute their vow to the constitution and responsibility to follow only lawful orders. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They added: "Every American must come together and condemn the ex-president's calls for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a time for moral clarity."

Additional Partisan Reactions

The Senate Democratic leader also condemned Trump's comments and shared on online networks: "It's important to understand: the former president is demanding the capital punishment of public representatives."

He continued: "This constitutes an clear THREAT. All senators, all representatives, every American – without partisan consideration – should censure this right away and absolutely."

The GOP leader defended Trump's claim that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", describing the video as "highly unsuitable", adding: "It is very risky, you have prominent officials of the legislature telling military personnel to disobey orders, I think that is historic in US history."

The GOP official also allegedly stated to journalists that in what he examined of Trump's posts, Trump was "describing the offense of sedition" but that "attorneys have to examine the wording and decide all that."

Administration Reaction

During a White House press conference on that day, when questioned by a journalist, "Does the president want to put to death members of Congress?", the administration spokesperson replied: "No."

"It's important to note about what the ex-commander in chief is reacting to," the spokesperson stated. "There are sitting members of the US Congress who coordinated to orchestrate a digital communication to personnel of the national defense, to serving soldiers advising them to disobey the president's proper directives."

She added: "The purity of our military depends on the chain of command, and if that structure is violated, it can lead to casualties, it can cause chaos, and that's what these members of Congress ... are basically supporting."
