Democratic officials voiced fury after Donald Trump charged a group of Democratic representatives of being "traitors" and asserted they should be arrested and punished "by death" following their release of a disputed video.

The Recording That Triggered the Controversy

The clip, published on Tuesday, includes six Democratic elected officials who formerly acted in armed forces or security roles.

"Similar to us, you all swore an oath to protect and defend this founding document," the representatives stated in the short video. "And right now, the dangers to our democratic foundation aren't just from abroad, but from within our own country. Our laws are unambiguous, you can decline improper directives, you can refuse unlawful commands, you must reject improper directives. No one has to follow commands that violate the legal system or our founding principles."

The Former President's Angry Reply

The recorded statement reportedly prompt a heated reply from the ex-president.

On the following morning, Trump posted on Truth Social: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

Opposition Representatives Answer

Following Trump's comments on Thursday, Democratic leadership released a combined declaration censuring the statements.

"Violent politics has no position in this nation," they wrote. "Representatives who were featured in the video all worked our country with tremendous loyalty and honor. We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and harmful calls for execution against members of Congress, and call on Republican lawmakers to vigorously do the same."

The representatives who were featured in the video also published a statement.

"Our pledge is permanent, and we intend to maintain it. No intimidation, intimidation, or incitement will prevent us from that sacred responsibility."

The GOP leader defended Trump's claim that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", describing the video as "highly unsuitable", adding: "It is very risky, you have prominent officials of the legislature telling military personnel to disobey orders, I think that is historic in US history."
