The distinctive yellow-fronted apartment block in the background assisted us verify the video.
Our team is checking images and video shared earlier today that show the scene of a alleged vehicle-borne explosive blast that authorities in Russia say killed a senior military officer in Moscow.
Officials in Russia stated that Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov was in the vehicle that detonated and that he later died of his wounds. A probe is under way.
Our starting point to check the location of where the images were from was based on social media reports saying the blast occurred on Yasenevaya Ulitsa in the southern district of the Russian capital.
We used street-view imagery on Google Maps and the local mapping service Yandex to corroborate the unique yellow hue of a adjacent apartment building seen in the video.
Locating other structures, lamp-posts and the street layout confirmed the exact location the pictures were captured.
We also checked that the videos were recent and that the images had not been manipulated.
